LLP Name Search & Availability: How to Pick a Name That Gets Approved

The MCA naming rules in plain English, the common reasons names get rejected, and an instant checker to test your proposed LLP name before you file.

What makes an LLP name approvable?

An LLP name must end with “LLP” (or “Limited Liability Partnership”), be unique — not identical or too similar to an existing company, LLP or registered trademark — and must avoid restricted words (like bank, insurance or anything implying government connection) unless you have the relevant approval. You reserve it on the MCA portal using the RUN-LLP form, where you can propose up to two names.

Check your LLP name

Type your proposed name for an instant rule check — suffix, restricted words and common rejection traps. Final availability is confirmed on the MCA portal.

How name reservation works (RUN-LLP)

Reserve your name on the MCA portal before incorporation.

Up to 2 names

You can propose two name options in a single RUN-LLP application, in order of preference.

₹200 fee

The government fee to file a RUN-LLP name reservation request.

Valid 90 days

Once approved, the name is reserved for you for 90 days to complete incorporation.

One free resubmission

If rejected, you usually get one chance to resubmit a corrected option without a fresh fee.

Add a significance

Explaining what your name means (coined word, activity, etc.) improves approval odds.

Then FiLLiP

The reserved name flows into the FiLLiP incorporation form. See the full process.

Why LLP names get rejected

  • Too similar to an existing company, LLP or registered trademark.
  • Restricted words like bank, insurance or finance without regulator approval.
  • Government-connection words (national, central, statutory) without Central Government approval.
  • Purely generic or descriptive names with nothing distinctive.
  • Missing the “LLP” suffix or offensive / undesirable wording.

FAQs

How do I check if an LLP name is available?
Use the checker above for the naming rules, then confirm live availability on the MCA portal. The name must be unique and not identical or too similar to an existing company, LLP or registered trademark — we run the official check before filing RUN-LLP.
What is RUN-LLP?
RUN-LLP (Reserve Unique Name \u2013 LLP) is the MCA web form used to reserve your LLP name before incorporation. You can propose up to two names, the fee is ₹200, and an approved name is reserved for 90 days.
Does an LLP name have to end with "LLP"?
Yes. Every LLP name must end with “LLP” or “Limited Liability Partnership”.
Can two names be proposed in one application?
Yes — RUN-LLP lets you submit up to two name options in order of preference, which improves your chance of getting one approved.
Should I trademark my LLP name?
Approving a name at the MCA isn't the same as owning the brand. To stop others using it, register it as a trademark as well.
